Iowa BEST: Behavioral, Equitable, Social-Emotional, Trauma-Informed Health in Schools Summit
The Iowa BEST Summit is designed to highlight educators’ collective need to bolster support and care across the educational system, and to build shared capacity to get there. The sessions will deliver resources and practical solutions around social-emotional-behavioral health. #IowaBEST2021

Alan Heisterkamp, Ed.D., serves as the director of the Center for Violence Prevention at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He facilitates trainings and seminars for school districts, colleges and universities, and community agencies serving youth and families that support and encourage the systematic implementation, practice and evaluation of bullying and gender violence prevention programming. Alan is recognized nationally for his work in advising university fraternities around leadership and sexual assault prevention.

As president and CEO of Cultivating Minds, Inc., Dr. Heisterkamp served as a consultant and researcher with the Waitt Institute for Violence Prevention on a five-year study in secondary schools entitled, The Sioux City Project, and co-facilitated research on the gender violence prevention program, Coaching Boys Into Men. In addition, Alan worked as the education consultant on the 2011 documentary film, Bully.
Alan holds a master’s degree in educational psychology and counseling, and a doctorate degree in secondary school administration.
