The Iowa BEST Summit is designed to highlight educators’ collective need to bolster support and care across the educational system, and to build shared capacity to get there. The sessions will deliver resources and practical solutions around social-emotional-behavioral health. #IowaBEST2021

If we have the knowledge and tools to help are students thrive, why do we sometimes miss the signs? If we are working to create safe and inclusive spaces, why do so many students struggle? Most of us have been trained to think linearly – if we do “x,” “y” happens. Yet, relationships, classrooms, and schools aren’t linear structures, they are systems – dynamic structures that respond and adapt to various changes. Unless we think systemically, we may miss the opportunities to employ our knowledge and skills to help students who struggle. This presentation is about systems – what they are, how they operate, and how we can use systems thinking to help students thrive.
