Iowa BEST: Behavioral, Equitable, Social-Emotional, Trauma-Informed Health in Schools Summit
The Iowa BEST Summit is designed to highlight educators’ collective need to bolster support and care across the educational system, and to build shared capacity to get there. The sessions will deliver resources and practical solutions around social-emotional-behavioral health. #IowaBEST2021

The summit is co-sponsored by the Iowa Department of Education and the University of Iowa College of Education.

Check & Connect (C&C) is a Tier 2/3 intervention used with K-12 students who demonstrate warning signs of disengagement within school socially and academically, and who are at risk of dropping out. At the core of Check & Connect is a trusting relationship between the student and a caring, trained, school-based mentor who both advocates for and challenges the student to keep education salient. Iowa has a strong cadre of trainers throughout the state. The presenter will share an overview of C&C, district implementation data, and processes from within our state. This session will help schools/districts identify readiness indicators and integration within MTSS.
