With so much happening in the world around us, children—and adults, too—have many kinds of feelings that are sometimes hard to explain. When we help kids name and talk about their feelings and provide tools to process ways of managing those feelings, children gain social-emotional skills to handle stress, have empathy for others, and form positive relationships. These skills become the building blocks for mental well-being and success in school.

With the help of our friends on Sesame Street, Sarah Welch with the Iowa Alliance for Healthy Kids and Iowa ACEs 360 is excited to share with you a free resource that can playfully remind kids of ways to see and name feelings for the good, the bad, and the ugly! In this session, you’ll have the chance to:
  • Explore free Sesame Street in Communities printable and digital resources that providers, families, and children can use.
  • Reflect on the wide range of feelings we have and what helps us manage our emotions.
  • Create a plan for how you can use resources on the Exploring Emotions topic page to support the children and families in your care.

This training is offered in partnership with the Iowa Alliance for Healthy Kids, a group that is working to improve the social and emotional well-being of young children in Iowa. The Alliance has teamed up with Sesame Street in Communities to give parents, caregivers, providers, and leaders m
essages and tools to promote nurturing relationships within families and to build social-emotional skills with kids. Get connected to this initiative at www.iowaallianceforhealthykids.org.
