Iowa BEST: Behavioral, Equitable, Social-Emotional, Trauma-Informed Health in Schools Summit
The Iowa BEST Summit is designed to highlight educators’ collective need to bolster support and care across the educational system, and to build shared capacity to get there. The sessions will deliver resources and practical solutions around social-emotional-behavioral health. #IowaBEST2021

Dr. Joseph Wehby

Joseph Wehby received his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt after having taught children and youth with learning and behavior problems in a residential setting. As Chair in Vanderbilt’s Department of Special Education, he is an experienced special education researcher. He has been PI of numerous research grants to investigate the efficacy of a variety of practices that integrate academic strategies, DBI, and methods to address behavioral problems. He is currently has grants from the Institute of Education Sciences investigating the effectiveness of an adaptive framework for Tier 2 behavioral interventions and implementing class-wide management programs for middle schools. In addition, he is the the director of the National Center for Leadership in Intensive Intervention and a Senior Advisor for the National Center on Intensive Intervention, both funded by the Office of Special Education Programs. Dr. Wehby received an Affirmative Action Award at Vanderbilt University for promoting disability awareness on campus, was named as the 2014Vanderbilt Chancellor Cup Recipient for contributions to students outside the classroom, received the 2015 Research Award from the Council for Exceptional Children, and the Outstanding Leadership Award from MSLBD.
