Iowa BEST: Behavioral, Equitable, Social-Emotional, Trauma-Informed Health in Schools Summit
The Iowa BEST Summit is designed to highlight educators’ collective need to bolster support and care across the educational system, and to build shared capacity to get there. The sessions will deliver resources and practical solutions around social-emotional-behavioral health. #IowaBEST2021

Dr. Julie Owens is a Professor in the Psychology Department and Co-Director of the Center for Intervention Research in Schools. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Purdue University and has been a faculty member at OHIO since 2001. Her program of research focuses on improving school mental health services for elementary school-aged youth with ADHD and related problems. Her studies attempt to identify classroom interventions that are effective, feasible, and sustainable, as well as strategies to help teachers implement these interventions and obtain positive student outcomes. Much of her research has been funded by local, state, and national agencies and most recently by the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences. Dr. Owens is an Associate Editor for the journal School Mental Health; she serves on the editorial board for five journals; she co-edited the most recent edition of the Handbook of School Mental Health, and she has published approximately 90 peer-reviewed articles. She is grateful to countless teachers, principals, school professionals, parents, and children who have contributed to her scientific inquiry.
